Experience
As a senior in high school, I helped tutor Spanish speaking students. I helped them fine-tune their papers, for many classes. My ACT score was 28 out of 36, with a 30 out of 36 on the writing portion. My high school, Burlington High School, has something called the Junior Writing Sample. As a junior, you have two days, and time in school during those two days, to do a draft and a final of a persuasive essay. I had some fun with it, and wrote an essay on why my favorite author, Stephen King, could be said to be one of today's best writers. I received a 6.0, highest honors, on that essay. As a senior, I took Advanced Placement English I, II, and III. I took the Advanced Placement test for English and received a 3 out of 5, which was enough to give me 6 college credits before I even started college. because of this I tested out of two basic English classes and was able to take 200 level english classes as a first semester freshman. Right now I am taking Creative Fiction Writing, in which we, as students, will have to write a fiction story that will be presented to the class, and as our final project, we will have to revise that story and present it to the class. I am also taking Advanced Expository Writing, in which we learn how to craft better essays. I have also, in the past, taken many literature classes and composition classes. I am also a Resident Advisor here at UW Parkside. I live on campus and help the other residents here with whatever they need help with, from roommate issues, to parking permits, to contacting the tutoring center. I was an RA last year as well, and being one has helped me be a better student, leader, helper, and person. I want to be a tutor because I love English. I love to read and to write, and I like helping people understand what they might be reading or writing. I have three younger siblings, none of which are too fond of writing. They call me when they need help with ideas, spelling, or if a sentence sounds right.
